Scottish driver Paul Di Riesta has signed up to become Force India’s second driver for the he 2011 season, becoming the third British driver in F1 next season. Di Riesta spent last season as Force India’s Reserve Driver, and now replaces the Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi. Liuzzi did have another year on his contract, and it was earlier thought that he may maintain his seat after impressively holding off Fernando Alonso for much of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. But Di Riesta will now have the opportunity to race in Formula 1 next season with Force India.
Sad news arrived for F1 fans when it came out that the popular Polish driver Robert Kubica was seriously injured after a crash whilst competing in a Rally event. Kubica sustained a number of rather serious injuries, and at one point it looked as though his career could be under threat. Kubica, though, is now making a good recovery and of course eveyone in F1 wishes him the very best. However, it has emerged that his injuries will keep him out of F1 for much, if not all of the 2011 season. Kubica will now be replaced for the season by his former team-mate at BMW Sauber, Nick Heidfeld.
