Sauber have replaced driver Pedro de la Rosa with the former BMW Sauber driver and Mercedes test driver Nick Heidfeld. This comes after a raft of speculation that came out after the Italian Grand Prix.
39 year-old de la Rosa has been replaced after only scoring 6 points in 14 races this season, compared to team-mate Kamui Kobayashi’s tally of 21. De la Rosa’s replacement in Heidfeld is also an experienced driver, holding the record of the most points scored without a win in F1. Heidfeld, who has tested the new Pirelli tyres for next season, enjoyed a successful spell with under Peter Sauber at BMW Sauber.
Heidfeld will now complete the remaining five races of the season with Sauber, starting at Singapore on Sunday 26th September.
