At today’s meeting in Paris the fate of the 13th grid slot was decided in three sentences.
“Following the press release of 19 March 2010 calling for expressions of interest to participate in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the FIA Formula One World Championship, a number of interested parties expressed their interest. It was considered that none of the candidates met the requirements to be granted an entry into the Championship.
Consequently, the allocation of the 13th team will not be granted. ”
With ART Grand Prix having already withdrawn their bid, the front-runners to get the final slot on the grid were the Villeneuve/Durango entry, Stefan Grand Prix and Epsilon Euskadi. The FIA ultimately deciding not to risk another public failure and choosing to deny entry to all candidates.
The FIA made no comment on whether the 13th grid slot would be open for bids for the 2012 season.
