F1 could return to the USA for the first time since leaving Indianapolis in 2007. The likely destination would be New York’s Monticello track.
The Chariman of the Monticello Motor Club Bill McMichael stated that “There was some agreement that Monticello could host a race”. However the circuit’s owners would need to find around $150m to finance the recommendations by chief F1 track designer Hermann Tilke’s . The track owners are hopeful a ten year deal can be secured with the FIA, which would start from the 2012 season of F1.
Bernie Ecclestone aims to have 25 race events on the F1 calender within the next 5 years, with India making it 20 next season.
